Noon meeting on Wednesday this week

Thanks and congrats to all of you who attended the Icebreaker tournament in Great Falls on Saturday. Nice work getting through your very first meet - that might be the hardest thing you do all year! We apologize for the late return, but our bus driver was just playing it safe.

Please note that this week’s noon meeting will be on Wednesday, Oct. 15 instead of Thursday, because we need to finalize our registration for Butte by the end of the day. That means we need to know for sure if you plan to compete at our first two-day tournament, Oct. 24-25.

Questions? Concerns? Please contact your primary coach!

Great Falls Icebreaker

The one-day Great Falls Icebreaker tournament will be held Saturday, Oct. 11.
This mini-tournament is a chance for novices to get their feet wet and returning students to warm up before the season begins. Please bring a little something for breakfast (we don’t want you to go to your first round of the year on an empty stomach!) and food or funds for lunch. (As I recall, Great Falls High usually offers concessions during the tournament.)
Both competitors and observers are required to wear tournament dress. If you don’t know what that means, talk to your primary coach.
Also, students must fill out their green drug/alcohol forms, blue participation forms and pay their fees in order to travel - NO exceptions.
Call head coach JoAnne Sherwood at 439-4985 if you are not sure whether you’ve handed those in.

Getting started

Welcome to the 2008-09 speech and debate season!

Returning/new student meetings
Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 17-18 @ 3:30 p.m. (Coaches will be there right after school)
Capital High School Library

Returning students, please spread the word about these meetings and plan to attend at least one of them yourselves. We challenge all of you to bring at least one possible new member to a meeting with you!

New student parent orientation
7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 in the library conference room (enter to the left of the school’s main doors)
Parents, please come and meet your child’s coaches and find out what our program is all about.

A few more things:
- Check out the new tournament schedule (at right) and begin to look at your academic/work schedules and make arrangements as needed

- If you know who your coach is, be sure and check in.

- Topics are out! LDers, Policy and Public Forum debaters, you can start doing research at any time!

- If anyone was wondering, we have decided not to do Carnival Classic at Memorial Park next Sunday (Sept. 22), but it’s a great event to attend and support if you can.

- Noon meetings in the library will start up again Thursday, Sept. 25. Be there or be….in big trouble:)

Note to returning members:
All of my exclamation points are not meant to negate the fact that we have all just experienced a heartbreaking tragedy. I’ll just say it: It’s going to be hard to start the year without Angela. More than that, it sucks.
But we can still be glad to be coming together as a team again, and look forward to a wonderful year of competition and fun - and of grieving and healing and remembering Angela together.
We look forward to seeing you next week.
